Interestingly, it is also home to the oldest race course in Europe: the Roodee.ĥ star rated, The Grosvenor features 68 bedrooms and a further 12 suites which include a spacious Presidential. It also boasts a partly uncovered Roman amphitheatre, and plenty of iconic Tudor houses. Notable names from history known to have stayed within its walls include King Edward VII in 1869 (as the Prince of Wales), while icons such as Princess Diana visited the hotel in the late 20th century.Ĭhester itself is almost certainly the finest walled city in Britain, with all but a fraction of its stone enclosure remaining.
